How Unified Security collects, uses and protects personal information. Last updated 17 May 2026.
Unified Security (we, us, our) is committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, and how you can access, correct or complain about how we handle it. It applies to information we collect through this website, through our work installing and maintaining security systems, and through any other interaction you have with us.
We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business functions. The categories of information we typically collect are:
Contact and enquiry information - name, business name, phone number, email address and the content of your enquiry when you contact us through the website, by phone or in person.
Project and site information - site addresses, drawings, building information and operational details supplied to us for the purposes of designing, quoting, installing or maintaining a security system.
Employment and contractor information - CVs, licensing details, qualifications and contact details when you apply for a role with us or work on our jobs.
Operational data from systems we install - in the course of installing CCTV, access control, alarm and monitoring systems, those systems may capture images, access events and alarm activations involving identifiable individuals. The customer that owns the site is generally the data controller for that information; we act on their behalf.
Website usage data - basic server logs and analytics data such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and time on site, used for security and to understand how the website is being used.
We use personal information for the purposes for which it was collected and for related purposes you would reasonably expect, including: responding to your enquiry, scoping and quoting work, designing and delivering systems, providing ongoing service and maintenance, managing our relationship with you, recruiting staff and contractors, meeting our legal and regulatory obligations, and improving how we run the business.
We will not use your personal information for direct marketing without your consent and we do not sell personal information to anyone.
We disclose personal information only where it is reasonably necessary to do the work you have engaged us for or where we are required to. Recipients may include: third-party monitoring centres providing 24/7 alarm monitoring, NSW Police where a police-listed response is engaged, head contractors and principal contractors where we are working as a subcontractor, our directly employed technicians and licensed installers, regulatory bodies and law enforcement where required, and professional advisers (legal, accounting, insurance).
Where we engage a third party (for example, a monitoring centre), we do so under arrangements that require them to handle personal information consistently with this policy and applicable law.
We generally do not disclose personal information outside Australia. Where any third-party platform we use (such as cloud-based VMS or access-control software) processes data outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled to a standard consistent with the APPs.
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification and disclosure. This includes secured systems, role-based access controls, encrypted transmission where appropriate, and staff who are bound by confidentiality obligations.
We retain personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, plus any period required by law (for example, taxation, work-health-and-safety and licensing record-keeping obligations). Operational data captured by systems we install is retained according to the customer's documented retention policy.
